Arecont Vision Announces First PSIA H.264 Baseline Implementation

Anaheim, CA (September 21, 2009) Arecont Vision, the industry leader in IP-based megapixel camera technology, today announces the compliance of their popular MegaDome™ and MegaVideo® H.264  line of products with The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance’s (PSIA) 1.0 API Media Device Specification. The PSIA, a global consortium of physical security providers focused on promoting interoperability of IP-enabled devices in the security industry, is featuring this baseline implementation at a demonstration on September 22, 2009, at the ASIS seminar.

The implementation enables Arecont Vision’s cameras to be automatically recognized as PSIA compliant cameras and stream video according to the open standard specification. The addition of the PSIA specification to the MegaDome™ and MegaVideo® H.264 lines save third party software manufacturers significant time and money; eliminating the need to write individual device drivers. Interoperability standards similar to PSIA’s enable IP-based security devices to communicate with today’s video management solutions without the need for a special driver or SDK.

“Arecont Vision is pleased to be one of the first to support PSIA’s objective aimed at achieving industry-wide interoperability standards,” said Raul Calderon, Vice President of Strategic Relations, Arecont Vision. “We believe standard compliance and the widespread acceptance of H.264 compression will further accelerate the implementation of megapixel cameras for mainstream applications.”

Arecont Vision, who is on the board of directors of PSIA, has been working closely with VMS provider members of PSIA to implement the specification this year in order to provide a working solution.

“We continue to be pleased by the enthusiasm coming from the manufacturing community,” said David Bunzel, Executive Director of PSIA. “As more camera developers incorporate the PSIA specification into their devices, we will see more movement from providers of video management platforms and then we can help bring truly interoperable solutions to market.”

The 1.0 API Media Device specifications enable interoperability between disparate products, expanding opportunities for companies that provide solutions to the physical security marketplace.
